Banana Club: The Documentary

2024. Botswana.

The documentary short follows Banana Club’s pioneering work in art and advocacy in the last five years. It is a poetic recounting of a pivotal year in the club’s quest to move ground through film projects, a self-funded artist residency, corporate collaborations and community work in more remote areas in their region. Follow the story as it questions the role of the artist in their community.

Executive Produced by Banana Club Founder and Creative Director Tanlume Enyatseng and produced by Banana Emoji Productions for Banana Club. The documentary features an animated scene by emerging queer animator Salvador Sunpai (@sunpaiarts) who was a finalist in the 2023 Banana Club Artist Fund open call.

“One of the core purposes of creating Banana Club was to establish archives for future generations to experience and reflect on the histories that continue to inform and inspire African queer artistry of today and the future. We are immensely grateful and proud of the journey we have had thus far and can not wait to see what the next chapter has for us.” - Tanlume Enyatseng
