Drifting Flowers (2008)

Lesbian filmmaker Zero Chou’s 2008 film DRIFTING FLOWERS (Piao lang qing chun).

The film is divided into three interconnected segments:

1.     May: Jing (Serena Fang), a blind woman who works as a singer in a restaurant to support herself and her younger sister May, begins to fall in love with a “tomboy” named Diego (Yi-lan Chao) who plays the accordion in her band. Jing is also facing a separation with May, as the girl’s school believes her late work nights do not provide a stable environment for her upbringing.

2.     Lily: Yen (Sam Wang) and Lily (Yi-Ching Lu) have a lavender marriage in order to be with their partners. Years later, both are dealing with health issues and separations; they reunite and find friendship and comfort in each other.

3.     Diego: Diego (Yi-lan Chao) is dealing with gender dysphoria as a teen. She is unsure of whether or not she is a boy or a girl, but begins to embrace her “tomboy” identity, and her romantic interest in women, after meeting Lily (Herb Su).

DRIFTING FLOWERS is available on DVD and Blu-ray, and also streaming for rent/purchase through @wolfevideo on Vimeo.
