Moroccan filmmaker Maryam Touzani’s ode to love in its many forms, THE BLUE CAFTAN is as delicately woven as the golden silk of its caftans. This nuanced story follows Halim (Saleh Bakri) and Mina (Lubna Azabal), a married couple who run a traditional caftan store in one of the oldest medinas of Salé, Morocco. When they decide to hire a quiet young man (Ayoub Missioui) to help out with the laborious work of hand-embroidering robes, the unspoken yet palpable attraction between the two men stirs up the couple’s subtle balance. A beautifully crafted film about the many textures of love from Morocco, a country that criminalizes same-sex relationships.

You can find THE BLUE CAFTAN streaming on Criterion (Canada/USA), Binge (Australia) - and available for rent/purchase through AppleTV, Amazon and YouTube.
