WILDHOOD (2021)

Phillip Lewitski and Joshua Odjick star in Two-Spirit writer/director Bretten Hannam’s (@brettonhannam on Instagram) 2021 romantic drama WILDHOOD.

Set in Nova Scotia, in the Annapolis Valley, Hannam’s film follows a Mi'kmaq teen named Link (Lewitski) who has left the home of his abusive white father, with his half-brother Travis (Avery Winters-Anthony) in tow, in search of his mother. On his journey he meets the Two-Spirited Pasmay (Odjick) who joins the two brothers and begins to help Link connect with his Indigenous heritage. With each passing day Link and Pasmay grow closer, and they slowly begin to find more clues as to the whereabouts of Link’s mother.

WILDHOOD was nominated for 6 Canadian Screen Awards in 2022, of which Joshua Odjick won for Best Supporting Actor.

In recent years, this is one of my top favourite films. If you haven’t seen it, you can find WILDHOOD streaming on CBC Gem, Crave, Paramount+ (Canada), Hulu (USA), Now Cinema (UK) - and available for rent/purchase through YouTube and AppleTV.
